Sick Visits

When a child is ill, no parent wants to wait until the next day or later to have the child evaluated. It is our priority, as your child’s provider, to always do our best see our patients for same day sick visits. In the event we are booked, our triage nurse will coordinate with the providers in order to make a plan for care that satisfies our patients needs and see the patient as soon as possible.

Well Visits

In order to facilitate our ability to see your child as soon as possible when he or she is sick, Red Stick Pediatrics tries to schedule our well visits in advance. All providers maintain numerous well child visits at various times during each clinic day to best accommodate our families’ needs. Our waiting area has a separate waiting room for our well children.

All of our physicians, schedulers, and staff strive to maintain an efficient and timely patient flow. Despite these efforts, there will be times when the nature of the field of medicine (especially pediatrics) prevents this from being a perfect system. Our number one priority will always be delivering the highest level of care needed by each of our patients.

New Patients

Red Stick Pediatrics is currently accepting new patients. To schedule your child’s first appointment at the clinic, please call our appointment desk at (225) 273-5995 and inform the receptionist that this will be the child’s first visit to the clinic. Our fax number is (225) 273-7475.

Please bring the following documents with you to your child’s first visit:

  • Current Insurance Card (if a card is not available, please bring all relevant information about the plan to which the child will be added)
  • Immunization Record (if your child has received vaccines at another clinic)
  • Newborn Hospital Discharge Paperwork (if patient is a newborn)
  • New Patient Packet

Phone Calls

Nurse Phone Calls

Red Stick Pediatrics has dedicated phone nurses to answer patient phone calls throughout the day. Parents are welcome to call to get answers to routine questions and concerns, request shot records or other forms, and to help determine a child’s need to come in for an appointment. Please leave a detailed message on the nurse triage line and our nurse will return your call as soon as possible. All messages left for the triage nurse will be returned the same day. In the event of an emergency, please speak to the appointment desk staff instead to inform them of the situation or hang up and dial 911.

While our doctors and staff make great efforts to handle appropriate concerns over the phone, most illnesses are best evaluated in person. Therefore, our phone nurses and doctors may recommend that your child come in for an appointment.

After Hours Phone Calls

During the hours in which our clinic is closed, Louisiana’s Bayou Health Plans maintain an after hours call line to handle any urgent concerns by phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We ask that you kindly use our regular office hours for routine and non-urgent questions. Just call our regular office number at (225) 273-5995 and you will be provided with the most up to date after hours call information.

Please have the following information on hand for after hours calls:

  • Patient name, date of birth, and current temperature
  • The names of any medications the patient is taking
  • The phone number to the pharmacy to which you would like any necessary prescriptions called

For life threatening emergencies, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. If you feel Poison Control is needed, the phone number is 1-800-222-1222.

Hospitals

We are excited to announce the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) physicians and staff now care for our newborn patients throughout their hospital stay at Woman’s Hospital and Baton Rouge General Hospital. Please notify the hospital staff upon admission your child will be seen at Red Stick Pediatrics to ensure all records and communication are shared with our clinic providers. For our sick patients, we admit them to the care of the specially trained hospital pediatricians at either Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital or Baton Rouge General Hospital. We work closely with these hospitalists to ensure that our patients receive the advantages of their specialized training while maintaining the continuity we have established at Red Stick Pediatrics.

Our providers do not currently have privileges at Ochsner Hospital. However, if you plan to have your baby or your sick child is admitted to Ochsner, the doctors at the hospital can care for your child and will send communication and records of this care to our clinic. Please just let the staff at the hospital know your primary care provider is Red Stick Pediatrics upon admission.

Medical Records

Our medical records department is happy to provide copies of a patient’s medical records upon request. In order to maintain the highest level of patient privacy and protection, we do require the appropriate Authorization for Release of Protected Health Information form be properly filled out prior to the release of records. We use a third party company that charges appropriate fees for this service as governed under Louisiana law.

Policies & Billing

Insurance Card

Please remember to bring your insurance card to EVERY office visit. We must have the most accurate and up to date information in order to properly file your claim and prevent any confusion in payments.

Payment Policy

All copays, coinsurance, and deductibles are due at the time of service. We accept cash, check, Visa, and Mastercard.

Deductibles

If you have a deductible, please be aware that we will collect in full the contracted rate at the time of service. Once you have met your deductible for the year, you may bring in proof and we will make a note in our records that you have met your deductible for the year with your insurance company.

Insurance Guidelines

Physicians are required to follow basic CPT and ICD-10 coding guidelines when determining how to code for services. We must code your visit based upon what services were provided and cannot take into account particular health plan benefit designs. Consequently, it is unethical for us to switch the visit reason and diagnosis in order for a claim to be covered by your insurance. If you think an error has occurred on your account, please contact our billing office immediately.

Adding Newborns to Insurance

Please contact your insurance company as soon as possible after your child is born. Most health plans allow 30 days to add a newborn to your insurance plan.

Missed Appointments/Cancellations

If you are unable to keep your appointment, please call at least 24 hours in advance to cancel. Even if it is within this 24 hour window, please be courteous and call us if you know you will not be able to keep your appointment time. This will allow us to better serve you and our other patients.

Red Stick Pediatrics does reserve the right to no longer see patients or families who do not respectfully comply with this policy.

Unpaid Accounts

If your account is not paid in a timely manner or payment arrangements are not kept, we will assign your account to a credit bureau.

Red Stick Pediatrics is steadfast in its support of full and timely vaccination for all of our patients according to the standards and recommendations put forth by the American Academy of Pediatrics. We do not offer alternative or delayed vaccine schedules unless they are medically indicated.
